About Amstel light

Named after the Amstel river in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, Amstel is a beer that was first brewed way back in 1870. It wasn't until 1883 that the beer was first exported to the world, firstly to places such as Great Britain, and the company never looked back as the beer has been a huge success. Today it is largely associated with major sporting events such as the UEFA Champtions league, of which it has been a long term sponsor.

Interestingly in 1968 the Amstel brewing company was bought out by another major Dutch beer producer in Heineken International. Heineken are now responsible for maintaining the brand and brewing the lager before exporting it to the world. The Amstel beer is now brewed at the Heineken brewery in Zoeterwoude, Holland.

Today Amstel is sold in 75 countries across the world, and comes in several different varieties, such a non-alcoholic version which can only be bought in the home country of Holland.
